New IB DP History and IB DP Extended Essay resources!

This year, the IB Diploma Programme introduces important updates to the Extended Essay and History course that reflect the latest curriculum developments from the International Baccalaureate (IB). The Extended Essay now offers two clearly defined research pathways — a traditional subject-focused option and a new interdisciplinary approach that formally replaces the World Studies EE — and features redesigned assessment criteria that emphasise analytical rigour, structured argument and reflection on learning. The total score remains out of 30 marks with refreshed criteria and a stronger focus on research skills and student growth.

The DP History curriculum has also been redesigned for first teaching in August 2026, built around historical inquiry and four key concepts (cause & consequence, continuity & change, perspectives, and significance). It gives teachers increased flexibility in choosing paired case studies, global themes and regional in-depth topics while streamlining assessment papers to support deeper engagement with sources and interpretation.

Witra Publishing Group provide a wide range of new supporting resources from Collins, Hachette Learning, Oxford University Press and Pearson to help you navigate these changes. Most titles are already available, with selected history resources publishing in late spring and summer.
