World Teachers’ Day
World Teachers’ Day, celebrated every year on 5th October, honors teachers worldwide and recognises their vital role in shaping education. This date marks the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation, which outlined key principles regarding teachers’ rights, responsibilities, and working conditions, including their training, employment, and overall teaching environment. In 1997, this was extended to higher education teaching staff through an additional recommendation.
Since its inception in 1994, World Teachers’ Day has served as a moment to appreciate teachers’ contributions to education, while also considering the support they need to fully thrive in their profession.
To all the amazing teachers out there, today is dedicated to you!
